The current St. Anthony's Hospital was constructed in 1928 at a cost of half a million dollars, despite an uncertain economic climate. The growth of Northern Manitoba and The Pas because of mining developments, construction of the railroad, and the growth of the Port of Churchill all put stress on the previous 50 bed hospital. The debt of the hospital was taken over by the Sisters, being paid off through patient fees for care at the hospital in a pre—public health care era. The new 100 bed hospital was opened on May 24, 1929 by Bishop Charlebois.
