quality not only in farm products but in methods of production. The persons charged with the responsibilities of the organization and operation of the Society can well be credited for the agricultural leadership which this district has shown in the province. Boys and girls junior club work was started in the district in or around 1920 and a good number of local youths have participated in the program and won national honors through this medium. The program now carried under the banner of 4-H Clubs is essentially the same. The first agricultural representative was appointed by the Manitoba Department of Agriculture in 1939 and since that time three men have served in this capacity in the area. They were H. A. Craig, J. C. Forbes and R. E. Forbes. The district occupies the position of pre-eminence which is hers today as a natural consequence of having among her first settlers an unusually large number of citizens with outstanding qualifications for leadership, coupled with a notable capacity for hard work. Men and women of this calibre have unselfishly served this community to an extent that can never be adequately recognized and. most having passed to their everlasting rest, no earthly reward can ever be theirs. That being so, their achievements can now only be recounted humbly and thankfully, a small tribute of respect to their memory. VETERINARY SURGEONS The veterinary surgeons of Pilot Mound have served a very large district. Dr. Little practised for many years and Dr. Kyle, who came in 1912, is our present vet. KINSMEN The Kinsmen Club of Pilot Mound was organized in February, 1950, by Manitou Club, with Alfred (Dinty) Moore as president and Kenneth Graham as secretary. In 1951-52 they won the Ken Pierce Memorial Trophy (greatest percentage national annual increase in membership). One of the first projects was the installing of a dance floor in the Mound Arena (7,200 sq. ft.) and the second project was the well fenced playground, equipped for children’s enjoyment. Commencing the winter of 1952 the Club sponsored a Tom Thumb Hockey Team which, under Kin Donald Thom’s direction, won the District Championship. During the winter of 1951-52, the Club sponsored a skating instructor and at the end of each season a very successful Ice Fantasy was staged. Major money maker was a 1953 Pontiac which netted the sum of $2,800. Easter Seals campaigns have been carried on and three local children are progressing favorably as a result of medical aid received. The erection of a rest room for the town is to be the next project. 37
