They farmed the home farm until retirement in 1976. George is buried at MacGregor. Mae lives in town. They had six children; Hazel Eileen married Terrance McMillan in 1966. They work at Carberry, Hazel in the local bank and Terrance for Midwest Foods. They have three children, Colleen Mae, Penny Jean and Terrance Brent. Beverly Grace married Gary Cyril Sample. They farm at Killarney with three children, Heather Lynn, Steven Gary and Lisa Marie. Colin Arthur married Sheila Lorraine Clark. They lived at Thompson, MB and Medicine Hat, Alberta with three children, Michelle Lorraine, Scot Arthur and Randall Edward. Colin and Sheila were divorced in 1991. Robert George farms on 26-11-11 in North Norfolk. Donald (Donnie) Walter married Marion Sheard **. They live at MacGregor with three children: Christopher Donald, Jocelyn Marion and Todd Alfred. This Butterfield family is active in all aspects of community life. Valerie Jean Butterfield lives in Brandon. 2. Lloyd Alexander (Bill) (1917-1993) was born at Austin and educated at Emmeline. In 1940 Bill married Netta Pogue **. He served in the Canadian Navy during WW II and on return farmed at Bagot until retirement to MacGregor in 1975. Bill is buried in the cemetery at MacGregor. Netta leads an active life in the town she has lived in for twenty years. Bill and Netta had two daughters; Donna Mae married Bob McKelvy **, and Bonnie Lynn married Randy Rintoul **. 3. Arthur (Art) Douglas married Marjorie Ellen Nohlgren **. They lived their lives around MacGregor; in fact Art is still called out on many occasions to do carpentry work and "fix things" around the town. He and Marj. have two 82 daughters; Linda Ann married Ernest Wm. Burton **, and Lorna Mae married Allen Boschman **. 4. David James (Jim) (1915-1988) was born at Gladstone and educated at Emmeline. In 1941 Jim married Leila Lamb **. They farmed at Firdale and then at Beaver. In 1987 Jim married Mae Holliday **. Jim is buried at MacGregor and Mac lives in town. Jim and Leila had three children; Karen Margaret married Dennis Snaith ** in 1963. Caroline (Carly) married Stanley Robinson ** in 1963. Lynn James married Sandra Maureen Anderson **. They farm near MacGregor and Sandra, being a nurse, works at the local hospital. She and Lynn have two children, Angela Dawn and Jeffrey Scot. . 5. Gladys Margaret married Arthur Street **. They farmed in the Beaver district on 2-13-10 and had one son, Lloyd. Following Arthur’s death, Gladys married Wallace Stone ** (1897-1977). Gladys still leads a reasonably active life in MacGregor and has been involved in writing the history of the Beaver district. 6. Daisy Love (c. 1908-1975) married Kenny Wickware (1907—1974) in 1936. They raised two children, Gordon Le Roy and Douglas Claire. They lived in Winnipeg and retired to Victoria. Daisy and Kenny are buried at Victoria, BC. BYLES James Harry Byles (1883-1979) was born in Portsmouth, England and came to Acton, ON in 1900 and to Portage la Prairie in 1908. In 1915 Harry married Lula Irene Wright ** (1891—1978). He went overseas with the 27th Battalion in 1916. In July of that year their infant son Jim died. He is buried in the Brookside cemetery in Winnipeg. In 1920 the Byles homesteaded at Harcus, MB. They moved to the SE of 7-12-8 at Portage in 1925. They retired to Portage around 1958 and are buried in the Hillside cemetery. Their three daughters attended the Elsmith school. 1. Jean became a teacher and married Walter S. Green. They live in Winnipeg with two children, Marilyn Anne and James Walter George. 2. Evelyn (1920—1982) became a nurse and served overseas from 1942 to 1945 with the 23rd Medical Unit. She married Charles Flood. They lived in Ontario and had five children, James, Kevan, Teresa, Jeffrey and Mary Lou. 3. Irene married George B. Taylor, a pilot instructor from the Air Training School at Portage. They live in Toronto and have two children, Dr. Brook and Peggy Anne.
