Ethel M. served in the civil service in Ottawa during W.W II and then married Reginald Smith. They live in Toronto and have two children; Launi Lea Smith married David Whiting. They have two daughters, Kimberly Dawn and Karen Lea. Patricia Dawn Smith married James Conlon. They have two sons, Brendon and Cory and a daughter Patti. COOPER George Cooper (1865-1951) was born to James and Susan Hines Cooper at Wooton, Bedfordshire, England and came to Canada in 1882. In 1884 George came to the Beaver district.where he farmed for nearly sixty years. He married Margaret McMinn (1860-1930). Margaret was born in Bondhead, Simcoe County in Ontario and came west with her parents in 1888. Margaret is buried at MacGregor; George is buried at Beaver. They had seven children. One child died as a baby; the others were raised on the family farm and went to school at Beaver. 1. Nellie (1892—1973) married Preston Sells. They lived their adult lives in Gladstone, Eva living to be 100 years. 3. Gladys (1895-1971) married George Hanna ** of Katrime. 4. Stanley (1897-1962) married Irene Dagg (1904-1988) of Killarney, MB. They farmed in the Katrime district until retirement to Winnipeg in 1959. Stanley and Irene are buried at Beaver. They had two daughters; Maureen who married Gordon Tario of Austin, and Glenda who married Ken Blatz of Morden. 112 Stanley and Irene (Dagg) Cooper Glenda Blatz, a daughter of Stanley and Irene Cooper, provided this commentary on life in the Stanley and Irene Cooper household and in the Katrime conununity during the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. “Stanley and Irene Cooper lived in the Katrime district from 1929 to 1959. Stanley was born in 1897 to George and Margaret McMinn Cooper of Beaver. He attended Beaver School and when old enough, like many young men his age, joined up. He went overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces - later to regroup with the 44th Battalion. He was wounded during action and spent some time back in English Military Hospitals. He was discharged in May of 1919 and returned home to Beaver to farm alongside his father and brother Cecil, later moving into the Katrime district. Irene was born to Frank and Elizabeth Dagg of Killarney, MB. She attended the Killarney School and took Teachers training at Brandon. She taught in rural schools such as Crystal City, Griswold, Beaver and Muir. While teaching at Beaver in 1925-26 Irene met Stanley Cooper. They were married in 1929 and made their home on Stanley’s farm in the house he built in 1928. Stan and Irene took part in the community and school affairs. They enjoyed the company of neighbours and friends at the varied events in the district. The Katrime Hall, though gone now, was where most of those events took place; whist drives, dances, concerts, teas, bazaars, wedding
