BEATRICE WEARY Beatrice Weary Beatrice’s Mom and Dad married in 1907. They would have siX children, Romeo, Eddy, Juliette, Beatrice, George and Babe. The family moved to Transcona in 1923, where Transcona 10th Anniversary — page 206 her Dad was employed at CN working in the repair track shops. The family lived on Rosseau. Her early memories were skating in the ditches in winter, with skates that were too big. All of the children in Beatrice’s family attended Central School. They all looked forward to going to the Transcona Theatre every Friday, where you could get a plate, along with your admission ticket. Beatrice remembers that there was always lots to do in Transcona, such as ballgames, horseshoes and in the winter time, skating. Two of Beatrice’s brothers, one in the navy and the other in the air force, served during the Second World War. The family were very thankful when both of them returned safely from the War. Beatrice lived with her family at 119 Melrose Avenue. in a double house, where three rooms could be rented out. Little did she know that the son of the family that rented out those rooms would in later years become her husband. Her husband worked at CN after the war. In the early years, Beatrice worked at Tony’s Cafe, now the Regent Restaurant. Beatrice loves living in Transcona, where she still has many friends. For a short time, she left Canada and settled in the US. However, Beatrice and her husband returned to Transcona, as she says, “Transcona is my home and I will always call Transcona my home”. Beatrice, who celebrated her ninety fifth birthday in 2011, attributes her longevity to great genes, as her grandmother lived to one hundred and two, and the company of good friends.
