Page 22 They were to be married after his ordinatiOn and the wedding took place while Mr. Gracey was still at Rapid City. Mrs. Gracey had been Eirene McLeod before her marriage and she liked to say that her parents rwlere Scottish, she was born in India, lived in England, came to Canada and married an Irishman. In 1946 Rev. and Mrs. Gracey went to a church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Two= daughters of Mr. and Mns. Andrew Cameron Sr. served the church. Margaret went to an Indian School at Gleichen, Alberta. Martha married an Anglican clergy- man and Rev. and Mrs. Singleton went to serve the church at Hay River in the North West Territories. In 1938 George Harland was presented with a Lay Rea- der's license from the Bishop of Brandon. St. Paul's, Moore Park, was not the first Anglican church built in Odanah. AbOut the year 1890a group of English settlers had located in the s0uth-west corner of ward ,2. This group was over-shadowed by one particular family-~Mr. Ward Meadows Sr, , his wife and their ten children, six sons and four daughters. Later, when three of the daughters were married to young men who had settled in the same district the names of Russel Mans- field, Harold Fulton and Walter Bray were added to the growing list of in—laws. A daughter, Maude was unmar- ried. Sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Meadows Sr. were: Charles J. , Ward Jr. , Harry F. , Reginald, Cecil and Walter. Charles J. Meadows told me that the lack of a church was of great concern to these pe0ple. However, at this time the Anglican Church in England was always ready to assist its members who had gone to far away lands where church facilities were not easy to obtain, and the newcomers to Odanah sought this aid. Assistance came quickly and a little church was built on south—west' 15- 13—18. It was called St. Saviour's and was consecrated on May‘ 6, 1894, by Archibish0p Machray, Primate of Rupert's Land. The first vestry members were: Ward Meadows Sr., R.M. Beacall, W.J. Heard, E.H. Pares, J.A. Heard and J. Cox. Charles J. Meadows became secretary, a posi- tion he was to hold for more than fifty years. Mr. and Mrs. Henslowe Sherris and their familyzwere other members of the church.
