In 1885 Mr. McGregor received $2.00 for the chapel lot. This church served the worshippers until 1908 with services also held in a hall in town for a few years. The congregation were able to purchase a lot in town(where Percy Burnell's house now stands) for $200.00, in 1906. They built a new brick ediface which was dedicated to the Glory of God on September 20, 1908, with Rev. Harkness as guest speaker. Rev. W.C. Smally was pastor at this time. The people of Baptist faith worshipped here until 1951, when they erected a new frame church. Dr. W.C. Smally preached the dedication service August 22, 1952. It was in this field, he had begun in the ministry in 1905, travelling by horse and cutter, or buggy, between Strathclair, Shoal Lake and two other preaching stations. On July 21, 1956 a house in town was purchased for use as a parsonage, which was dedicated to the Lord on January 30, 1957. 1951 — Present Church Shoal Lake and Strathclair are the second oldest church organizations in the Baptist Union of Western Canada. They worked as one field until 1938, when Birtle joined the field. On January 1, 1955 Shoal Lake and Birtle be- came a separate field and Strathclair became another. Through the years the people of this faith have had a dedicated congregation. ST. LUKE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH — STRAT'HCLAIR Early in 1903 a resolution was presented to the Archbishop for the Strathclair and Newdale congregations to join forces to support an incumbent here. The cornerstone of the church was laid July 17, 1903. Later, congrega- tions from Egypt and Holylea joined the group. Rev. Groulx was the first minister and served until 1905, when services were held irregularly, with student ministers taking the services. Rev. W. Stocker accepted the i'ncumbency in May 1912, serving the congregation until 1924, with services held irregularly again until 1929, when the services of a regular minister were again secured.
