married Tom Pratt of Boissevain, who was employed by the Parish Heimbecker Elevator Company as a con- struction worker. The last two or three years they have resided in Brandon where Tom is a cement foreman for the Powell Construction Company. They have two children, Corey, born March 9, 1970 and Jill, February 24, 1973. SEAFOOT FAMILY by Mrs. . F. Seafoot Walter Seafoot came to Canada from Saxony, Ger- many, an orphan of 2 years old and lived at Goderich, Ontario. He never attended school and was a wage earner at age 11 years. His wife Sarah Roberts came from England and she taught Mr. Seafoot to write his name after their marriage in 1876. .3 :53» Abe Groves Family. LEFT TO RIGHT: Mrs. Groves, Bill, Gertie (Seafoot). SEA TED: Abe with Bertha on knee and Edith. They came to Winnipeg with their 2 children, George and Albert in 1879 and to the homestead at Carroll on SE 1/4 4-7-19 in 1882. In 1887 they acquired SW 1/4 of 4—7- 19 as a pre-emption and in 1882 they purchased the NW 1/ 4 33-6-19 in the Whitewater Municipality. 232 Millie and Ema were born in Winnipeg, William, Annie, Alex, Kathleen, Fred and a baby boy who died in infancy were all born on the homestead. Their home was a stopping place for new settlers enroute to and from Brandon to south of the Souris River. The frame house which is still lived in was built by Mr. Seafoot with stone foundation in 1892 to replace a log house. A barn with stone foundation was built in 1896. This barn burned in 1924 and was replaced by another structure on the same foundation. Fred still lives on the homestead. He married Gertie Groves in 1918 and lived in North Battleford, Sask., for five years, returning to the homestead when his father retired. Fred and Gertie have 6 children, Viola, Mrs. W. Mahoney of Ottawa, has two children of a former marriage, Valerie and Barry Pepin. Kenneth of Virden, who married Eleanor Patterson of Boissevain has 2 children, Sheldon and Carl. Morris of Nesbitt married Doreen Hunter of Nesbitt and has five children. Ronnie, Sharon, Linda, Beverly and Naydine. Morris farms the NW 1/ 4 5-6-19 in the Whitewater Municipality. Dorothy, Mrs. D.R. Metcalfe of Winnipeg has two of a family, Chris and Jeannie. Garth of Carroll married Wilma Burton of Boissevain and has 3 of a family, Keven, Marla and Gail. Garth is employed by the Department of Highways and also farms the N 1/2 34-6-19. Cliff of Nesbitt married Beatrice Ormitson of Brandon and they have 2 children. Tracey and Trent and farms in the Nesbitt district. Fred and the boys deliver their grain to the Minto and Nesbitt elevators. All the Seafoot boys have been active in the Riverside Ball Club as well as hockey and curling. Morris, Garth and Kenneth have all curled in the Manitoba Consols and Morris’ son Ronnie is on the Riverside Ball Team. He also plays hockey with Wawanesa and Minto and is also an ardent curler. Fred Seafoot is the only living member of his family as this is written. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Seafoot and sons Albert and a baby are buried in the Minnewawa Cemetery. EDWARD AND MARY SHAW by Mrs. Rose Shaw and Evelyn Trent Our grandparents, Edward and Mary Shaw came from Fergus, Ontario, in 1882 and homesteaded on the NW 1/ 4 of 16-6-19. Grandma said she never saw a woman from the time the snow fell until it was gone in the spring. There was a stone house on the property, which burned down but following this setback, Grandpa had the house built that is still standing. They had three sons; James, Wesley and Edward. Grandpa lived to be 80 and Grandma 86. James never married and he died at the age of 45. Wesley married Rose Cole in 1910 and they moved to their own place on 17-6-19. They had two children: Evelyn and Norman. Wesley died at the age of 44. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Shaw found herself
