Thompson. eight years, served on the boards of Hamiota District Hospital and Oak River United Church for a number of years. He was a Past Noble Grand and Past District Deputy of I.0.0.F. Lodge No. 72 at Oak River. He often took part in plays, both at Marland and at Oak River, always willing to Emcee a program and could come forth with a comic song or Stanley Holloway reading to help with enter- tainment when needed. He was fond of music and was a member of_ the Oak River United Church Choir. "The Gunner” as Harry was often referred to following the First World War, was fond of travel, he took several trips overseas also managed to see most of the North American continent. The evening of the day he died he was planning to show slides of a trip he had taken to the British Isles and Europe earlier in the summer of 1965. JOSHUA BEAUMONT THOMPSON Joshua Beaumont Thompson was born in 1900. He finished his elementary education at Bankburn and Marland schools. He worked on the farm at Oak River until 1922, at which time he enrolled at Brandon College, where he completed his high school grades, con- tinued his studies and graduated with a BA. Degree in 1928. He took summer employment surveying in British Columbia prior to his graduation from College. 525
