Title: | Newsclipping - "Old buildings to stay - for now" |
Collections: | Winnipeg Tribune fonds Landmarks, Monuments & Built Heritage of the West |
Description: | A Winnipeg Tribune article published 22 December 1976, which addresses concerns over possible demolition of the Childs and Nantons buildings at the corner of Portage and Main. The two buildings were purchased by Marathon Realty, which along with Toronto Dominion, paid $400,000 toward a new underground concourse in exchange for free reign to alter or destroy the two buildings in the future. While Marathon denies it has plans to demolish the buildings, the Manitoba Historical Society and the Manitoba Association of Architects both express concern that the two buildings are in danger of being torn down by the realty to make way for newer buildings. |
