Description: | Pieces of vandalized statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Bernadette, gathered from the grounds of the Ukrainian Catholic Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Cook's Creek, Manitoba. The callous desecration, one in a continuous stream of attacks upon the Grotto by vandals in the early 1980s, prompted a combined effort involving the parish, the RCMP, Juvenile Court, Probation Services and community volunteers to establish a special court for those charged with offences at the Grotto. Under the leadership of Chief Judge E. C. Kimelman, convicted offenders were sentenced to serve community restitution in Cook's Creek, for offences such as vandalism, theft or trespass at the Grotto. |
