Commitment to the Winnipeg Arena
A black and white photograph of the Winnipeg Arena. Lawyer Michael Dennehy, Lotteries Minister Bob Banman, and Winnipeg councillor Jim Ernst, have been added to the photograph to illustrate their funding commitments to the arena. The Winnipeg arena was built in 1955 and was opened with the first regular season game between the Winnipeg Warriors and the Calgary Stampeders. The occasion marked the return of professional hockey to the city of Winnipeg after a 27 year absence. The arena sat 9,500 when it opened, and 15,565 after an expansion in 1979. The MTS Centre replaced the Winnipeg Arena when it opened in 2004.
